Warpface Lightning Pattern
(Setting up the headstick)

Setting up a headstick for the warpface lightning pattern.
  • Two contrasting colors of yarn are needed. One for the lightning pattern and one for the background.

  • The number of yarn strands for the lightning color must be an even number.

  • [NOTE] (8 or more strand recomended)
The number of strands for the background color depends on the variation of the lightning pattern being used.

[NOTE] The number of background color strands is usually equal to or greater than the number of lightning color strands.

For this tutorial the headstick is set up using 32 strands of yarn---
  • 20 background color
  • 12 lightning color
The strands are arranged in the following order:
  • 10 background color
  • 12 lightning color
  • 10 background color
For the parts 1 and 2 of this tutorial, the shed is picked up so that the first strand on the right hand side of the lightning color is in the top layer of the shed.

[OBSERVE] The background color on the right hand side of the work piece has an even number of strands. The first strand on the right hand edge and the first strand on the right hand side of the lightning color are both in the top layer of the shed.

[NOTE] If right hand side has an odd number of background strands, the first strand on the right hand edge will be in the opposite layer of the shed, the bottom layer.

For parts 3 and 4 of this tutorial, the shed is picked up so that the first strand on the right hand side of the lightning color is in the bottom layer of the shed.
  • [OBSERVE] The background color on the right hand side of the work piece has an even number of strands. The first strand on the right hand edge of the workpiece and the first strand on the right hand side of the lightning color are both in the bottom layer of the shed.


  • [NOTE] If there is an odd number of background color strands, the first strand on the right hand edge of the workpiece will be in the opposite layer of the shed, the top layer.
